Legendary jazz drummer, Jimmy Cobb, is  a superb, mostly self-taught musician.  Jimmy's inspirational work with Miles, John Coltrane, and Cannonball Adderly in the 50s and 60s includes the masterpieces "Kind of Blue", "Sketches of Spain", "Someday My Prince will Come", and many, many other watershed Miles Davis and Coltrane recordings.  Jimmy Cobb is an NEA jazz master and continues to take jazz all over the world.   Hear the history of jazz when we feature Jimmy Cobb Monday night on the 9 O'clock special.

  Tenor sax man Stan Getz is in a class by himself.  His nickname was "the sound" for the beautiful lyrical tone that came out of his horn.  He was known as a brilliant improvisor and sightreader.  Getz's perfect pitch and supernatural memory made him a shining star in the jazz universe.  His solos are still studied and his sound has never been matched.  Best known for bringing the bossa nova to the world in the 60s, his career spanned 40 years of bebop and bossa nova.  Hear the many sides of Stan Getz tonight on the 9 o'clock Special.

Gila River Indian Community members to vote on Loop 202 extension

Members of the Gila River Indian Community will decide next week whether to allow an extension of the Loop 202 on reservation land. The project has been in the works for more than 20 years, but the debate deals with issues much older than that.  From Phoenix, KJZZ’s Mark Brodie reports.

Route of Loop 202 extension affected by funding

Members of the Gila River Indian Community will vote Tuesday on whether to allow a new freeway to be built on tribal land.  The extension of Loop 202 around South Mountain was proposed more than 25 years ago.  But funding shortfalls and differences over its route have delayed the long-awaited freeway.
