According to Miles Davis and Kenny Clark, guitarist Charlie Christian was the originator of bebop who influenced Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. His phrasing and improvisation were way ahead of their time. After he was discoverd by John Hammond, he recorded with Benny Goodman and Lionel Hampton for only two years before he died of Tuberculoses at the age of 25.
