A former state representative has been acquitted of domestic violence charges, about four months after being forced to resign his seat over the matter.

The Pima County Board of Supervisors has appointed Tucson attorney Nick Fontana to the state legislature. Fontana replaces Daniel Patterson, who resigned earlier this month after an ethics panel recommended he be ousted from the legislature.

Daniel Patterson’s replacement in the Arizona House of Representatives will be an independent, not a Democrat.
