Teaching Arizona’s students is a challenge at every grade level, but perhaps especially so in the nation’s largest community college system. Of recent high school graduates coming into the Maricopa Community Colleges, 40 percent can’t read at a college level, and 30 percent can’t write at a college level.

Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett said he would not put a sales tax measure on the ballot because paper and electronic language differed. Early Wednesday morning a Maricopa County Superior Court judge decided that it was a minor error and that the measure is valid.

In his State of the Union address, President Obama said higher education "is an economic imperative that every family in America should be able to afford."
