A dynamic performer, a consumate musician, and a delightful spirit, saxaphonist James Moody is an inspiration to all musicians.  Moody started his career with Dizzy Gillespie after he returned from WWII.  Moody recorded bebop and ballads on his sax and flute for over sixty years  from 1948 until his death in 2010.  Hear the fun and fiesty sounds of jazz master James Moody Monday night on the 9 O'clock Special.

Some of the most beautiful melodies have been written by pianist, composer Michel LeGrand.  His songs, Windmills of Your Mind, Watch What Happens, The Summer knows, Brian's Song, and many more are Grammy winning favorites. Tonight hear Arturo Sandoval, Bud Shank and Freddy Cole share their versions of Michel LeGrand's beautiful and haunting melodies, tonight on the 9 O'clock Special.

Peter Appleyard who toured the world playing vibes with Benny Goodman, took a combo up to Toronto for a One night gig in 1974. Afterward,  the ensemble, including Hank Jones and Zoot Sims stopped into a recording studio.  Tonight for the you'll hear those lost sessions for the first time.  And don't miss the sultry sound of Carmen Lundy's smoky voice and brilliant lyrics on her new release, Changes, bringing a whole new dimension to the jazz vocalist genre.  Finally get ready for some new fusion from Jeff Lorber on Galaxy. Enjoy plenty of new sounds tonight on the 9 O'clock Special.
