Business leaders in Arizona are strongly backing the state’s
transition to the Common Core standards – a multi-state effort in math and
English that supporters say will teach students to think, rather than memorize
facts.
Arizona high school graduation rates have inched up in the
past few years, though federal data show the state still ranks right near the
national average.
Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne says he’s working with
state lawmakers to modify a proposal that would require money from lawsuit settlements
to go into the state’s General Fund.
An Arizona House committee has given initial approval to a bill making it easier for police to detain people believed to be a danger to themselves or others because of a mental health issue.
