Travelers flying through Gateway Airport in Mesa will soon be able to access the east side of the airport more easily. The Arizona Department of Transportation will break ground Tuesday on a new state route they’re calling the Gateway Freeway. 

Members of the Gila River Indian Community told the state last night they do not want an extension of the Loop 202 on reservation land -- and don’t want it anywhere else, either.

Members of the Gila River Indian Community will vote Tuesday on whether to allow a new freeway to be built on tribal land.  The extension of Loop 202 around South Mountain was proposed more than 25 years ago.  But funding shortfalls and differences over its route have delayed the long-awaited freeway.

Valley commuters are seeing something new along a couple of Phoenix area freeways this morning.
