Salt River Project has begun a years-long effort to drain, clean, and repair all 130 miles of its canal system. Saturday, SRP is inviting the public to see one of the crucial steps.
About 2 million people in the Valley have their water delivered by Salt River Project canals. For the first time in more than a decade, the entire canal system will be drained for cleaning and repairs.
Record high temperatures are helping to set records for power consumption here in the Valley. The two major electrical utilities say they have enough power to meet demand but are looking for ways to keeps costs down.
This past winter may not have been the driest in Valley history but it was in the top twenty. Salt River Project says the La NiƱa weather pattern meant little snowfall in the mountains and light runoff for the lakes and rivers.
