A Warm Welcome

The first question everyone asks me when they find out I’m from out of state is, “How are you handling the heat?” The answer is, quite well! Coming from triple digit temps and high humidity in Arkansas, Arizona’s dry heat seems quite bearable. But it wasn’t the weather that brought me to Arizona; it was the public radio stations here in the Valley—KJZZ and KBAQ.

As an avid listener, you know KJZZ and public radio are doing truly amazing things. Public radio has been the place for me since I started working in the field nearly five years ago. The community involvement, the drive for objectivity and truth along with the dedication to bring classical music to the masses are just some of the reasons I love this business. Most of all, it’s the people.

In my work, I’ve found that fans of public radio come from all different walks of life. Public radio is the grandmother who donates five dollars a month and the CEO who donates $5,000 a year. It’s the daughter who loves classical music and the father who loves A Prairie Home Companion. I guess the main reason I love public radio is that it offers something for everyone.

As the new Philanthropic Gifts Officer for KJZZ and KBAQ, my job is to show you ways to ensure the future growth and development of new programs and initiatives and sustain the impact of public radio for future generations, and highlight the tangible benefits that come from your generous support as a major donor. With the recent growth of KJZZ and the continued excellence of KBAQ, I don’t think that will be too difficult.

Whether it’s a story from Fronteras: The Changing America Desk or a piece by Rachmaninoff; KJZZ and KBAQ are bringing something that’s essential to maintaining the quality of life here in the Valley.
