A West Valley state lawmaker is resigning from office. From Phoenix, KJZZ’s Mark Brodie reports.

MARK BRODIE: Democratic State Representative Richard Miranda says he will step down from the house, effective Monday. In his resignation letter to House Speaker Andy Tobin, Miranda cites health reasons, and personal family issues as reasons for resigning. Miranda served in the House for four years, from 1999-2002, and then moved to the State Senate, where he served four terms. He’s in his first term back in the House. Miranda serves District 13, which includes Tolleson, and parts of Avondale and Maryvale. Once Miranda officially leaves the house on Monday, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors will choose his replacement from a list of three candidates.
