Terence Blanchard on 9 O'Clock Special
By: Michele Robins on 03/08/2012
New Orleans Trumpeter Terence Blanchard got his start with the Lionel Hampton Orchestra and then played with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. His Grammy winning song cycle, "A Tale of God's Will" (A Requiem for Hurricane Katrina), was an emotional tour de force about this natural disaster. His unmistakable compositional style and playing can be heard on nearly 50 film scores. Since 2000, Blanchard has served as Artistic Director at the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz and as of August 2011 he was named the Artistic Director of the Henry Mancini Institute at the University of Miami Frost School of Music.
