Primary to fill Giffords' seat held Tuesday

Tuesday is primary day in Southern Arizona’s Congressional District 8, in the race to fill out the rest of former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ term. From Phoenix, KJZZ’s Mark Brodie reports.

MARK BRODIE: Giffords resigned her seat in January to focus on her recovery from a gunshot wound to the head she suffered during a constituent event in Tucson last year. She has endorsed the only Democrat in the race, former staffer Ron Barber. Four Republicans are running in the GOP primary: Jesse Kelly, who narrowly lost to Giffords in 2010; State Senator Frank Antenori; Retired Air Force Colonel Martha McSally; and broadcaster Dave Sitton. The winner of the primary will face Barber in the special general election, which is scheduled for June 12. In addition, the primary for the newly drawn District 2 is August 28, with the general election on November 6.
