Congress returns to work this week after its month long August recess.  As KJZZ’s Al Macias reports, this is the last session for one Arizona lawmaker.

The U.S. Senate will be back in session today, and for Senator Jon Kyl, this will be his final go around.

And it will be a busy one as both houses of Congress attempt to get legislation passed. The House and Senate have been unable to agree on a farm aid bill, and the current legislation expires October 1st. 

The President is pushing a jobs bill for veterans, and the White House and Congress also have to agree on 12 bills that fund the government. It appears likely that a short term funding bill will be the stop-gap solution to keep the government running after September 30^th.

Senator Kyl is the minority whip, which is the second highest ranking position among Republicans in the Senate. He had hoped to get a landmark water agreement between the Navajo and Hopi nations approved before he retired, but that deal collapsed earlier this summer when the Navajo Tribal Council rejected the agreement.

Senator Kyl announced his retirement last year -- this is his third senate term. He also served eight years in the House of Representatives.
