A Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house in Phoenix that was slated for demolition has been saved. As Peter O’Dowd reports, an anonymous buyer purchased the home for an undisclosed price.

PETER O’DOWD: Earlier this year, a developer purchased the house for just under than $2 million. And that developer wasn’t shy about plans to tear down the Wright house to build new luxury homes. The famous architect had designed the house for his son, and some elements mirrored Wright’s iconic Guggenheim Museum. Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton says the home is now safe from danger.

GREG STANTON: This is an early Christmas present to the people of Phoenix, and architecture fans around the world.

O’DOWD: The Illinois-based Frank Lloyd Wright Building Conservancy helped usher in the sale, which included the entire 2-acre property. The land and the house will be transferred to a nonprofit that will be responsible for restoration.
