Tracking and preventing concussions suffered by young athletes

There are around 90,000 high school athletes in Arizona, and a program set to be launched early next year aims to track how many of them suffer concussions. To discuss the joint effort, guest host Mark Brodie talked to Dr. Tamara McLeod, Director of the Concussion Center at A.T. Still University of Health Sciences in Mesa and Dr. Javier Cardenas, a Neurologist and Brain Injury Expert at the Barrow Neurological Institute at Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix.

Plus, hear from Chuck Schmidt, Executive Director of the Arizona Interscholastic Association. Last year, the AIA started requiring all high school athletes to complete an online course dealing with concussions before they could take the field. Schmidt thinks the program has been a success.
