A mammoth manufacturing and industrial center  will soon open in Avondale. Right now there are no tenants for the facility. Developers and the city are confident that is going to change. KJZZ’s Al Macias reports city leaders believe it is another sign of a rebounding economy in the West Valley.

AL MACIAS: The first phase of the center will cover 600,000 square feet. Avondale planners say they needed this space to attract industrial and manufacturing companies. Neighboring cities such as Tolleson and Goodyear have attracted companies such as Amazon and other large retailers. Dan Davis is the development director for the city of Avondale. He says this is the first large scale industrial construction since before the recession.

DAN DAVIS: What that means for us is not only capital investment but also on the backside, the future opportunities for jobs, as tenants come into the building.

MACIAS: The complex is being built by developer Trammel Crow. Even though there are no tenants yet, both the developer and the city believe its location next to Interstate-10 and proximity to Phoenix and Sky Harbor airport will make it attractive to potential clients. The first phase should be completed this spring. Plans also call for another 400,000 square feet to be built in the second phase.
