The Tonto National Forest is looking for volunteers to help with spring cleaning along the Salt River. Forest officials say the water in the lower Salt River is low enough this time of year to remove trash from the banks and even the river bottom in some areas. Tens of thousands visitors leave tons of trash behind throughout the year.

Forest employees and volunteers will be cleaning up the morning Saturday morning February 16th. Volunteers must wear closed toe, rubber soled shoes and are encouraged to bring gloves, water and sunscreen. 

Registration for the event will take place online at www.voaz.org. Volunteers will meet at the Blue Point Recreation Site, 8-9 a.m for sign-in. The clean-up will begin directly after the sign-in is finished and will continue until about noon.
