The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors could have a new member by the end of the week. Supervisor Max Wilson resigned from the board due to health concerns earlier this year. KJZZ’s Al Macias reports there is no shortage of people applying for the job.

Seventeen people submitted applications by last Friday’s deadline. The list includes several current and former city, county and state officials as well as private individuals.

Supervisor Wilson served on the board since 2002 when he was appointed to fill a vacancy created when Jan Brewer resigned to run for Secretary of State.

A spokesman for board chairman Andy Kunsaek says the supervisors are expected to meet and decide on Wilson’s replacement by the end of the week.

The board membership had remained unchanged since 2002 when Wilson was appointed. Two new supervisors were elected last year and took office in January. Now with Wilson’s replacement, three of the five members will have less than three months of experience on the Board of Supervisors.
