Patrons Leadership Society News

Members provide the largest share of funding for KJZZ and KBAQ. Setting the pace are members of the newly formed Patrons Leadership Society. These individuals are leading by example and are making extraordinary contributions toward the programming and future of public radio in Arizona.

Members of the Patrons Leadership Society are stepping forward by increasing their annual giving levels and encouraging members of the community to do the same so that KJZZ and KBAQ have the resources to fund special initiatives, such as the recent Teen Radio Arizona project.

In January, Patrons Leadership Society member, Deeann Griebel, renewed her commitment in a big way with a $25,000 contribution. Ms. Griebel is a long-time, trusted friend of public radio who says she’s “giving back for all the years of programming I’ve enjoyed.” Her gift helps ensure the programs we enjoy today are here in the future.

Ms. Griebel was one of the Patrons Leadership Society members who enjoyed the opportunity to meet with NPR CEO, Ken Stern during his recent visit to Phoenix. Mr. Stern, oversees, directs, and coordinates all management and strategic business leadership of NPR. He was in the Valley to visit with Patrons Leadership Society members and station staff about the future growth and expansion of National Public Radio. His visit to the Valley underscores the importance of the collaborative relationship between NPR and local NPR affiliate stations such as KJZZ.

Aaron Pratt, Major Gifts Officer, saw Ken’s visit as an opportunity to engage major donors both locally and nationally. He says, “Living in the west often makes it difficult to gain a personal understanding of what’s happening at the headquarters of many national organizations in the east. That’s why I’m so glad we were able to provide the meeting between Phoenix’s strongest advocates for public radio and Ken Stern, the man who helps to set the course for public radio nationally. These are the types of opportunities that are so important to members of community; opportunities that I’m glad that KJZZ can provide through the Patrons Leadership Society.”
