Irvin discusses jazz in the valley, the mystical force behind the trumpet, and his collaboration with renaissance man Gordon Parks. Irvin Mayfield will be performing the music that came out of this project on Aug. 20, 8:30 p.m. at the Sheraton San Marcos Resort. Bob Wilber grew up in Scarsdale, NY, and studied at the Eastman School of Music and played with the group, The Wildcats. Bob became a protege of Sidney Bechet and later performed with Benny Goodman, Jack Teagarden, Bob Crosby and Eddie Condon. Bob co-led Soprano Summit with Kenny Davern, was a founding member of the World's Greatest Jazz Band. Among the numerous recordings to his credit, Bob was recognized with a 1986 Grammy for his musical score of the film, "The Cotton Club." He has played all over the world at concerts, festivals and parties.
