9 O'clock Jazz Special for 2/9

Tonight is a swingin special! You'll hear the Ellington orchestra from the 40s to today, in honor of their concert this Saturday at Scottsdale Center for the Arts.  Plus the Manhattan Dolls will stop by to talk about vocal swing and their 3 part vocal group in the tradition of the Andrews Sisters.  The Dolls are singing all across Arizona from Prescott and Peoria to Tucson and Green Valley this week.

Pianist Bill Evans helped to create one of the best loved albums of all time, Kind of Blue. Whether he is with his trio or playing for Stan Getz or Miles Davis, his sense of harmony reflects Debussey and Ravel and his improvisation is surprising and subtle creating a meditative mood that makes you hold your breath to hear the next phrase.  Learn more about jazz giant, composer, pianist Bill Evans tonight on the 9 O'clock Special.

Chicago guitarist Bobby Broom loves playing his bluesy jazz style with his group, The Deep Blue Organ Trio.  They will be here in town this Saturday night for a performance at the Rhythm Room.  Tonight I'll feature Bobby Broom and I'll give away his latest CD with The Deep Blue Organ trio, "Wonderful".  Tune in to win a CD tonight on the 9 O'clock Special.
