Checking in with Representative Sinema
( Phoenix, AZ )Freshman legislator Kyrsten Sinema has been in office for more than two months now. Among the most progressive lawmakers at the capitol, Sinema has had no luck getting any of her bills passed. But she has established herself as an outspoken liberal voice in a conservative legislature. KJZZ's Rene Gutel has part two in a series following Sinema's first session at the state capitol.

Succeeding J.D. Hayworth

That action has led to speculation about a long list of possible republican candidates--including former Governor Fife Symington. Budget, Take 2

A few days later, she sat down with legislative leaders to try and work out a budget she could sign. Relocation Alaska at the Phoenix Public Library
( Phoenix, AZ )An art installation devoted to a little known chapter of World War Two history wraps up next week at the Phoenix Public Library. Nearly one year to the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Japanese bombed the Aleutian Islands in the Bering Sea. The U-S responded by evacuating nearly 900 Aleut Alaskans from their villages. Whole families were forcibly moved to campsites, where they were kept for three years.

Biography of John J. Rhodes
( Phoenix, AZ )A new biography of former Arizona congressman John J. Rhodes is now in book stores. Rhodes represented Arizona in the U.S. House of Representatives for 30 years beginning in 1952. He is credited with shepherding the Central Arizona Project to completion. As minority leader, Rhodes accompanied Sen. Barry Goldwater to the White House in 1972 to inform president nixon that he would not survive an impeachment vote… and in 1988, rhodes was preparing to run for Governor of Arizona if then-governor Evan Mecham were the subject of a recall election. What's Really in a Name
( Phoenix, AZ )In his first year as superintendent of the Scottsdale Unified School District, Dr. John Baracy has made many changes. But it's one seemingly small one that's earned the most notice. Baracy has given his staff an Extreme Makeover of sorts by replacing their mundane job titles with newer, fancier ones. KJZZ theater critic and New Times columnist Robrt Pela says the move has prompted HIM to reconsider what's really in a name.
