The Arizona Senate has defeated a trio of education-related bills, which would have put restrictions on what teachers could and could not do in the classroom. From Phoenix, KJZZ’s Mark Brodie reports. 

MARK BRODIE: One of the bills would have prohibited public school teachers from promoting a partisan ideology, either in the classroom, or during an extracurricular activity. Violators could have lost their teaching certificates. Another of the measures would have required high school teachers to have all teaching material pre-cleared by their district’s governing board. The third bill would have penalized teachers who used language in the classroom that violated FCC standards for obscenity, indecency and profanity. The sponsor of the three bills, Republican Lori Klein of Anthem, has said they’d make public education more transparent, while critics argued the bills would be a burden to teachers. Some Republicans joined Democrats in opposing the measures.
