9 O'clock Jazz Special for 8/5
Drummer Jeff Hamilton grew up listening to his parents big band records in Indiana. He was inspired by Gene Krupa and Philly Joe Jones. After working with Ray Brown, Gene Harris and Ella Fitzgerald, today Hamilton leads is own piano trio and his band The Clayton Hamilton Jazz Orchestra. Hear him with his bands and with Diana Krall tonight when I feature the sound of Jeff Hamilton. One of his first breaks was playing with the Tommy Dorsey ghost band, and then he worked with Monty Alexander. He spent 8 years with Ray Brown and Gene Harris and got to play with his dream band when he worked with Woody Herman's Thundering Heard. Today Jeff Hamilton is one of the best loved drummers in the business because he has such amazing control of his volume and tempo. Hear him tonight.
