An advocacy group is out with a Spanish-language guide to the ballot measures Arizona voters will decide next month. And, as KJZZ’s Mark Brodie reports from Phoenix, the group is trying to get minority voters to cast their ballots on the nine questions.

MARK BRODIE: The Arizona Advocacy Network had 30,000 of the brochures printed. They list each ballot measure, and include an analysis, and what supporters and opponents say about it. Sam Wercinski is the group’s Executive Director.

SAN WERCINSKI: Our focus being on communities that have historically been ignored or disenfranchised, outreaching and educating them on these important issues. So, this year, we’ve taken precious resources and we’ve invested in this review of the nine ballot measures to help educate voters in the Latino community.

BRODIE: Under the Voting Rights Act of 1965, all election information that’s available in English has to also be available in minority languages. But a spokesman for the Arizona Secretary of State’s office says even though it didn’t mail out Spanish-language guides, they are available online and by request. He says the state got permission to do that from the U.S. Justice Department more than a decade ago.
