Across the country voters are casting their vote from the presidential race to local races like U.S. Senate and Congress.  Some waited in long lines at polling places.

NADINE ARROYO RODRIGUEZ: Polling places in the east valley opened at 6 a.m. on time and without any reported problems. Several had heavy traffic in the early morning hours. Others were relatively quiet. By 9 o’clock in the morning, the polls in Tempe’s Kyrene Middle School had more than 200 voters come in. More were trickling in with absentee ballots. The City of Guadalupe had light traffic at its polling place near the community center. Among the voters walking through was Bernice Merritt -- with her caregiver, Amber, in tow.

BERNICE MERRITT: I’ll be 94.

ARROYO RODRIGUEZ: How important was it for you to vote?

MERRITT: Very important.

ARROYO RODRIGUEZ: She said to you I have to go vote?

AMBER: Yes, Yes. I said let’s go I saw the site down the street and I’ll walk you over there.

 ARROYO RODRIGUEZ: Like Bernice, others voters say their concern isn’t just the presidential election, but the local races for congress and propositions. Polls close statewide at 7 p.m.
