Arizona universities and colleges are among the thousands being evaluated by the White House. Today the federal government launched a website that will help future students and parents decide what college to attend. The interactive website is part of the Obama Administration’s effort to make higher education institutions more accountable for cost and quality.

NADINE ARROYO RODRIGUEZ: The College Scorecard includes four key pieces of data about a college: costs, graduation rate, loan default rate, and average amount borrowed. It also lists information about campus location, size and the type of degrees offered. The website has information on 59 of Arizona’s universities and colleges. The College Scorecard shows the cost of attending ASU, U of A and NAU as low-to-moderately priced. The graduation rates are medium-to-high, and the loan default rates for all three state universities is below the national average. Kent Hopkins manages enrollment at ASU.

KENT HOPSKINS: For me now the trick is getting this out to our citizens. So, how is the federal government going to do that? How will our high school counselors going to do that? So that it becomes top of mind.

ARROYO RODRIGUEZ: Hopkins says ASU will be using the website in their recruitment efforts. In the future the website will include how many students from a school land a job after graduation.
