Giffords' Aide Is New Spokesman At College Loughner Attended
TUCSON, Ariz. -- The spokesman for Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is expected to leave his position to become the head of public relations for the community college her accused shooter was expelled from.
A board of governors still needs to approve the hiring of CJ Karamargin for the public relations position. He served as Giffords’ spokesman since 2007 and handled much of the public relations after the January 8 shootings in Tucson.
Six people were killed that day and another 13 were wounded, including Giffords.
Jared Lee Loughner , the accused shooter, was suspended from Pima Community College last fall.
Loughner has been indicted by a federal grand jury on 49 counts, including murder. The courts are currently wrestling with the issue if Loughner - who has a history of mental illness - is competent to stand trial.
The board of governors is expected to vote Wednesday on Karamargin's hiring. If approved, he will be vice chancellor of public relations for the community college, the school announced Tuesday.
