The Latino Gap: One student's journey through English Immersion classes

Over the last fifteen years, California, Arizona, and Massachusetts have all replaced bilingual education with English Immersion. This was supposed to help close the achievement gap. But by most measures – it hasn’t.  We’re looking into why this is the case. In our latest story in our ongoing series on the Latino Education Gap, Devin Browne follows one Los Angeles student through five years of English Immersion classes and finds that she’s still struggling to communicate -- in any language.

EDITOR'S NOTE: A documentary-length version of this story will be broadcast at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 3 on KJZZ 91.5 FM. This will be part of a one-hour special presented by KJZZ and Fronteras: the Changing America Desk on the Latino Education Gap.
