Bill to ban texting while driving is defeated

This week the texting while driving ban was defeated in a 31-28 vote. Thirty five states currently have distracted driving laws. We take a look at whether Arizona may join them in the future.

Arizona House minority leader Steve Farley thinks that the bill won’t die due to a growing bipartisan following. Farley says by putting a law about it on the books we can start teaching young drivers not to take part in activities that distract them while driving, and enforcing the laws would further crack down on dangerous driving. Russ Rader, senior vice president for the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, says evidence doesn’t suggest laws make drivers any more careful or attentive; it just makes them sneakier.
