Obama administration suspends immigration court dockets in four cities

The Obama administration is halting immigration court proceedings in four cities. The move will give authorities time to review thousands of cases and delay deportation for many non-criminal undocumented immigrants. Immigration court dockets in Seattle , Denver , New Orleans , and Orlando will be temporarily suspended, according to the Department of Homeland Security. It’s part of an effort to focus on deporting criminals and those who pose a threat to national security or public safety.

Officials hope to indefinitely delay deporting undocumented immigrants who haven’t been charged with any crimes and who aren’t held in custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE has already reviewed almost 1,200 deportation cases in Baltimore and Denver , and recommended suspending more than 1,600 cases.
