Brewers baseball expected to stay in Maryvale until 2023

Spring training baseball could continue in Maryvale for another decade. The Phoenix city council is expected to approve a tentative agreement Tuesday to keep the Milwaukee Brewers in Phoenix. KJZZ’s Al Macias reports.

The Brewers have called the Maryvale complex their spring training home since 1998. Their current contract with Phoenix expires at the end of this year. Under the proposed agreement the Brewers will continue to train in Maryvale until 2023, although the team could terminate the contract earlier.

If approved, the city will complete $1.5 million in improvements to the major league clubhouse and other buildings. City officials say the Brewers and their fans contribute more than $3 million in direct spending and taxes to the city.

Attendance this year at Brewers spring training games like this one was up for the first time in five years according to Cactus League statistics.
