The Arizona Board of Regents has voted to keep tuition flat for many in-state undergrads at state universities. This is the first time since 1992 those students haven’t faced a tuition increase. From Phoenix, KJZZ’s Mark Brodie reports.
MARK BRODIE: Thursday’s vote by the regents means in-state undergrads will continue to pay around $9,700 dollars a year at ASU. Tuition and fees will also stay the same at U of A, but since the regents did not renew a tuition rebate, the cost will go up to a little more than $10,000 dollars. The board also voted to keep NAU’s Tuition Pledge program, which guarantees flat rates for eight semesters. But, incoming freshmen will pay 5 percent more next year than did those this year. Out-of-state undergrads will pay 3 percent more at ASU and U of A, as will all grad students. In a statement, the chair of the Board of Regents says the rates are made possible by sound fiscal planning and more efficiencies on the part of the universities, and a commitment from Gov. Brewer to re-invest in the universities.
