Skin Cancer Awareness month

Lisa Quale, senior health educator at the Skin Cancer Institute at University of Arizona, and Dr. Glen Weiss of the Piper Cancer Center in Scottsdale talk about the importance of protecting yourself from skin cancer in sunny Arizona.

Weiss and Quale say it’s important to know how your skin normally looks and to do regular checks for any variation. Weiss says your skin tone should ideally match the color on the underside of your arm, where the sun doesn’t usually hit. Quale says that people should check their skin once a month and look for anything unusual, even on parts of skin that don’t see sun. Quale and Weiss say that using sunscreen is a good preventative measure, but people need to remember to re-apply it every two hours and should avoid the sun entirely whenever possible.
