New Phoenix Police Chief sworn in

Phoenix has a new police chief. Daniel Garcia was sworn in today, taking over for Acting Police Chief Joe Yahner. From Phoenix, KJZZ’s Mark Brodie reports.

MARK BRODIE: Garcia took the oath of office this afternoon at Phoenix City Hall. The 34-year veteran of the Dallas Police Department says he loves his now-former agency. But, he told his new employer his heart has moved west.

DANIEL GARCIA: Everybody in this uniform, I want to tell you that I’m gonna transfer the love of the Dallas Police Department over to the Phoenix Police Department. My commitment is now to making the Phoenix Police Department, or to continue to make the Phoenix Police Department the best police department in the United States.

BRODIE: Garcia noted he was starting his new job during National Police Week, which honors officers killed in the line of duty. He called the significance of that astounding.
