Glendale coucil to vote on raising taxes, fees

The Glendale City Council will vote Monday night on how to close a $35 million shortfall in next year’s budget. The city laid off 49 employeeslast week. Monday night the council will consider raising property, sales and hotel bed taxes. It will also look at increasing fees at the Glendale Civic Center as well as city parks, libraries and recreation centers.

City staffers say the slow economic recovery and the city’s $25 million debt to the National Hockey League for management of the Coyotes hockey team have left Glendale with few alternatives.
