More Arizonans expected to travel this Memorial Day than in 2011

More than 700,000 Arizonans are expected to travel this holiday weekend. And, if they all do, it would be around a one and a half percent increase over last year’s Memorial Day travel. From Phoenix, KJZZ’s Mark Brodie has more.

MARK BRODIE: AAA-Arizona says 620,000 of those travelers are expected to drive - increase over last year, while about 59,000 will fly - that’s fewer than 2011. Nationally, almost 35 million people are projected to travel for the holiday weekend - more than last year - and the majority of them will drive. The average gas price in Arizona is higher this year than last…$3.76 for a gallon of regular unleaded. That contrasts with the average gas price for the U.S. as a whole - $3.67 a gallon, which is lower than last year.
