Glendale fireworks ban takes effect

Another city is banning the use of fireworks. Glendale’s ordinance takes effect Friday just as the Memorial Day weekend gets under way. State law allows for the sale of consumer fireworks throughout Arizona, but that doesn’t mean they are legal to use everywhere. State Fire Marshall Bob Barker said this is really a buyer beware situation.

"Most of the major cities in Arizona have outlawed the use of fireworks in their city limits," Barker said. "However the sale is not regulated so you can buy them just about anywhere, so you have to be really careful of where you buy them, but can you use them."

Setting off fireworks in Glendale could cost you a minimum $275 fine. Other cities have similar penalties.
