Local candidate removed for proficiency now on national ballot

The woman who was barred from running for a border town city council because of her lack of English proficiency is now running for Vice President of the United States.

Alejandrina Cabrera will run alongside Utopian Party presidential candidate Avery Ayers. Cabrera was removed from the San Luis, Ariz. city council ballot in March after a court determined she didn’t speak English well enough to run for office.

Utopia Party founder Ayers says Cabrera was treated unfairly and asked her to be his running mate.
