A project called Desert Initiative: Desert One takes a look at the culture and environment in the nation’s four desert regions.
Greg Esser, associate director of the Desert Initiative Project, says they’re looking at the arts as a way to investigate the desert in new and innovative ways. He says people in the Valley sometimes take for granted the desert environment integrated into the urban environment through protected areas. Esser says it’s not a stretch to connect art and science, and initiative programming reflects this. He’s excited to build partnerships locally and globally, and says that if they’re able to deepen people’s appreciation of the place they live he’ll feel successful.
