Gov. Brewer given three options for AZ Supreme Court appointment

A state commission has given Governor Jan Brewer three options for her next Arizona Supreme Court appointment.

The Commission on Appellate Court Appointments nominated court of appeals judges Ann Scott Timmer and Diane Johnsen and Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Douglas Rayes.

Governor Jan Brewer will choose from that list when she makes her third appointment to the five-justice state high court.

Timmer and Rayes are Republicans; Johnsen is a Democrat. The commission’s list has to include a mix of partisan affiliations.

Timmer and Johnsen have been finalists for previous Supreme Court appointments, including two by Brewer.

Brewer needs to appoint a replacement for Andrew Hurwitz, who left the Supreme Court for the Federal Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
