The impact of NAFTA on Arizona

This year marks the 20th anniversary of NAFTA, the North American Free Trade Agreement. It was intended to remove barriers to trade and provide an overall economic boom.

Arizona State University W.P. Carey School of Business Professor Arnold Maltz discusses NAFTA's impact on Arizona's trade with Mexico and the increasing trend of nearshoring, the practice of moving production plants from China to Mexico. Maltz specializes in supply chain management. He said the Mexican interchange with Arizona is worth $11 billion per year, and while certain types of jobs have shifted, "NAFTA raises all boats."
