Yuma sector BP Agent said to have killed girlfriend, self

The Yuma County Sheriff’s Office says a U.S. Border Patrol Agent fatally shot his girlfriend before turning the gun on himself Wednesday.

36-year-old Agent Robert C. Nelson is believed to have committed the murder-suicide. The sheriff’s office received a 911 call around 4:15 Wednesday morning. The caller said her brother told her he’d killed his girlfriend and would kill himself.

The name of the woman found dead in the house hasn’t been released. An 11-year-old girl was also found unharmed. It’s unclear how or if she was related to either of the deceased. The sheriff’s office is working to notify next of kin and find a relative who can take in the child.

Nelson joined the Border Patrol in 2005 and worked in the Yuma Sector.
