Bond set for mother of Jhessye Shockley

A $500,000 bond was set Friday for the mother of a missing Glendale child. 38-year-old Jerice Hunter’s daughter Jessye Shockley hasn’t been seen since last year.

Police believe Hunter murdered the then-five year old and disposed of her body several days before reporting her missing October 11. A 96-day search at a Phoenix-area landfill ended in late June without finding any remains.

But Thursday, Hunter was indicted by a Maricopa County Grand Jury and arrested on suspicion of first degree murder and child abuse. Friday, her bond was set a half a million dollars. An arraignment is scheduled this coming Thursday.

Hunter’s lawyer says his client maintains she’s innocent. Authorities say Hunter previously did time in California for abusing her older children.
