Arizona Commerce Authority looks for new leader

Arizona ’s public-private economic development organization may be getting a new CEO.

Last year, the Arizona Department of Commerce became the Arizona Commerce Authority in a move pushed by Governor Jan Brewer. The new organization is a state agency run largely by private business leaders and co-chaired by former Suns owner Jerry Colangelo.

The Authority receives $35 million a year of state money to foster job growth. The group’s first CEO, Don Cardon, left in July to return to his personal businesses.

The Commerce Authority board is scheduled for a closed executive session Tuesday and the agenda includes an update on the CEO search. The agenda for the board’s public meeting includes discussion and possible action on choosing a new leader.
