PHOENIX -- The gossip website Gawker loves picking on just about everybody, and they've occasionally been known to set their sights on Arizona Governor Jan Brewer. Last night, Gawker posted an article headlined "Did Jan Brewer Punch a Reporter for Asking Her about Global Warming?"
The incident in question came when the excellent political reporter Dennis Welch of Phoenix Channel 3 asked Brewer for her views on climate change ahead of a governors' conference where energy was among the scheduled topics. Brewer answered, and Welch's photographer caught her on camera after the scrum broke up asking the reporter, "Where in the hell did that come from?"
Her response went (semi) viral, and an email to Jim Romenesko's blog from another photographer at the scene further described Brewer as getting the Welch's attention thusly: "Brewer took her left hand, balled it into a fist and with the back of her hand she slugged the reporter on the back of his right arm. Not hard, but with enough force that he spun around to see what was going on."
Dennis, you'd better call Gloria Allred.
If internetizens want to criticize/question/judge the governor, go right ahead. But I can live without the click bait headlines.
Also, get off my lawn!
