Teens trapped for two hours over frozen lake

Emergency crews had to make a rescue from an eastern Arizona lake yesterday.

Two teenagers were out on Fool Hollow Lake late Wednesday, on the north edge of the city of Show Low . The lake’s frozen over, but the ice underneath them began to crack.

The two grabbed onto a dead tree. Show Low Fire District Captain Brent Mix says the teens spent two hours hanging onto the tree until they were rescued.

A third teen had stayed on the snowbank next to the lake and was able to go for help. Twenty-five emergency personnel from several different agencies responded. The teens were treated at a hospital for mild hypothermia.
