Arizona spared slightly during flu season

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention say 41 states reported widespread flu activity between Dec. 23-29, but that Arizona was not one of them. From Phoenix, KJZZ’s Mark Brodie has more.

Thirty-one states had reported widespread activity the week before. Of the ten regions of the country the CDC looks at, the one that includes Arizona was the only one that had normal flu activity -- the rest were elevated.

Arizona’s region also includes California, Nevada, Hawaii and Guam. The state Department of Health Services reports 190 lab-confirmed cases of the flu during that week, and 790 cases from 14 of Arizona’s 15 counties during the current flu season.

La Paz was the only county to not have any cases. The vast majority were from Maricopa County, followed Pima and Cochise counties.
