Yuma's mayor suing the city council

Yuma's mayor is suing the other six members of the City Council and two city officials. KJZZ's Al Macias says the suit is over the mayor’s legal fees stemming from an independent investigation.
Yuma mayor Alan Krieger is suing for more than $15,000 dollars. He says that's what he spent in legal fees to defend himself in an investigation brought last year by other members of the council.

That investigation found that Krieger had violated the state’s open meeting law and conflict of interest statutes. The Yuma City Council censured Kreiger for the violations.

Earlier this week Krieger agreed to repay the city's petty cash fund for mileage reimbursements he allegedly paid himself over the last two fiscal years.

A council member raised the issue, accusing the mayor of receiving more than $800 from the petty cash fund without submitting proper documentation.

Yuma City Administrator Greg Wilkinson says the city will likely hire an outside attorney to defend itself in the suit.
