Phoenix mayor heads to Mexico City for trade mission

Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton is traveling to Mexico City on Wednesday to lead a trade mission there. The purpose is to strengthen economic ties with our neighbor to the South.

The delegation from Phoenix includes city and business leaders. The mission, which will last more than three days, includes meetings with the U.S. Ambassador, Mexico's Secretary of Foreign Affairs and the head of Mexico's ports.

One focus will be boosting trade between Arizona and Mexico. Another will be drawing Mexican tourists to Phoenix, particularly for sports tourism. This will be Mayor Stanton's third official trade mission to Mexico, Arizona's biggest trading partner.

EDITOR'S NOTE: KJZZ's Jude Joffe-Block will be sending reports from that trade mission to Mexico this week.
